Recognised Studies
The SACE Board of South Australia has policies and procedures to recognise a range of non-SACE studies that can count towards the SACE/NTCET. The universities may also agree to these studies being able to contribute to the calculation of the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
Recognition by the SACE Board of South Australia
>
Recognised Studies must be approved by the SACE Board of South Australia as counting towards the SACE/NTCET at the Stage 2 level
Nature of study
>
Under normal circumstances only academic studies or vocational training will be recognised for the purpose; life experiences and community involvement will generally not be recognised
Level of study
>
Recognised Studies must be at the same or higher level as SACE Stage 2 subjects in terms of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
Depth and breadth of study
>
Recognised Studies must involve the study of an academic discipline to at least the same depth and breadth expected in a SACE Stage 2 subject
Study load
>
Individual instances of study suitable for the purpose must count for at least 10 credits towards the SACE where the subject is to be used in lieu of a 10 credit SACE Stage 2 subject
>
Individual instances of study suitable for the purpose must count for at least 20 credits towards the SACE where the subject is to be used in lieu of a 20 credit SACE Stage 2 subject (for either its full score or half its score)
>
Studies counting for less than 10 credits will not be counted
>
Studies counting for less than 10 credits cannot be summed to achieve these 10 or 20 credit thresholds
Number of instances of study considered
>
A maximum of 20 credits of Recognised Studies can count in the calculation of the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)
Significant content overlap
>
Studies that have significant overlap with a SACE Stage 2 subject already presented by a candidate will be considered in the University Aggregate calculation, but in such instances only one of any overlapping pairs will count towards the final aggregate
Level of achievement
>
In all cases studies will only count towards the University Aggregate provided the candidate has been assessed at a level that is deemed by the Working Group to be equivalent to recorded achievement in the SACE (grade A+ to C-)
Scaled score equivalents

equivalents will be assigned for Recognised Studies
Recognised Studies will be dealt with in two ways:
> Preapproved Recognised Studies
Many International
Baccalaureate (IB) and Australian interstate year 12
subjects have been considered by the Universities
and TAFE SA and have been pre-approved as Recognised
Studies.
IB and Australian interstate subjects approved as Recognised Studies are outlined in the
document
Interstate/IB subjects pre-approved as Recognised Studies. This document is updated periodically as
any new subjects are approved by the universities and TAFE SA
> Application for Approval for Other Studies
To have other studies approved as Recognised Studies
your school will need in the first instance to contact the SACE Board to
apply for the studies to count towards the SACE.
If the studies are approved for inclusion in the
SACE, the SACE Board will request that SATAC
consider the studies for the purpose of calculating
the ATAR & TAFE SA Selection Score under rules
established by the Universities and TAFE SA. SATAC
will pass back the outcome of this consideration to
the SACE Board who will in turn inform the school.
Most first year Bachelor degree level subjects and
completed VET qualifications at AQF Certificate III
level or higher are likely to be approved, subject
to checks that they do not constitute a precluded
combination.
