What happens after you have submitted your SATAC application?

There are a number of online applicant services available to you after you submit your SATAC application. You can pay any outstanding SATAC fees, check or change your contact details, attach supporting documents online, check or change your preferences, and check offers by logging in via My Application.

Submit supporting documents

In many cases, such as university study undertaken in Australia, SATAC can obtain results from these studies on your behalf, but for some qualifications, such as overseas studies, you will need to provide supporting documents.

The SATAC application will tell you if you need to provide supporting documents. Once you have submitted your application you will also be able to attach supporting documents online, or print a document cover sheet if you would prefer to provide your documents to SATAC in hardcopy. 

Some important points if you do need to provide supporting documents

There may be delays in assessing your qualifications if you do not supply the correct documentation in support of your application.

If you are required to provide documents for current year (2018) studies, submit these as soon as they are available.

Original documents

Do not send irreplaceable originals such as your degree parchment. SATAC does not return documents, nor does it keep documents submitted in previous years. 

Studies undertaken overseas

If any of your documents are in a language other than English, you must submit copies of both the original documents and the full translation. Copies of official transcripts and parchments may be attached to your online application as scans of original documents, however if submitting as hard copy, the documents must be certified copies. Transcript translations must show results for all subjects undertaken. All translations must be completed by an independent accredited translator. 

It is your responsibility to comply with any requests by SATAC to provide further documentation, either in the original language or translated into English.

Certification of documents

You must supply certified copies of all documents submitted in hard copy. You may bring your original documents in person to SATAC’s front counter, where SATAC staff will photocopy them, stamp the photocopies ‘original sighted’ and sign them. 

You may also take your original documents, together with photocopies to the issuing authority e.g. Registrar of a tertiary institution or to a Justice of the Peace or similar for certification. The person who certifies the photocopies must attest to having sighted the originals of the documents concerned.

If you are residing interstate, you may take your original documents in person to another tertiary admissions centre (UAC in New South Wales, QTAC in Queensland, VTAC in Victoria or TISC in Western Australia) for certification. A fee is charged for this service.

Supplementary exam results

If you are sitting supplementary examinations SATAC cannot obtain these results for you. Send the results to SATAC as soon as they are available but note that in most cases, they will be too late to affect the outcome of your application. Special arrangements may be made to accept results from supplementary examinations which have been granted on medical grounds. If this applies to you, advise SATAC as soon as possible.

When you send or bring documents to SATAC after you have submitted your application, make sure they are clearly marked with your current name and your SATAC postgraduate reference number.

Check or change your preferences 

A change of preference includes both changes to the order of existing preferences and the addition of new preferences to an application.

You can check or change your preferences online by logging in via  My Application

SATAC staff will not accept a change of preference over the telephone.


SATAC will notify you of an offer on behalf of the universities by emailing the offer to your last recorded address. You can also view your offer by logging in via My Application.

If the offer is to your first preference, SATAC will accept the offer on your behalf and all you need do is enrol per the instructions in the letter. You will not need to take any further action with SATAC.

If the offer is not to your first preference, SATAC will ensure that your higher preference(s) are still 'alive' for future offer rounds but you should still enrol per the instructions in the letter.

Your responsibility

It is your responsibility to find out whether you have received an offer and to comply with the enrolment instructions included in the offer letter.

Neither SATAC nor the universities can be responsible for the consequences of late enrolment. If you miss the enrolment date, you risk losing your place.


Postgraduate courses are not deferrable through SATAC.

Applying for credit

Credit is also known as status, advanced standing or recognition of prior learning. If you wish to apply for credit for previous study, you should seek advice from the university concerned rather than SATAC. They will advise you of the application process and any documentation they may require.

Applicants not selected

If you comply with all the application requirements but are unsuccessful and are still interested in studying at postgraduate level, you should seek advice directly from the institutions on how you might increase your chances in a future application.
