Methodology
The statistics in these pages have been derived from SATACs application
databases. At the end of each admissions cycle, the databases are reconciled with the
institutions' enrolment records so that data on eventual enrolments at the institutions
can be as accurate as possible.
Basic assumptions
- Form applicants who have no preferences (none were included on their application and the
applicants did not take the opportunity to add any preferences after being written to by
SATAC) are excluded from the statistics
- Applicants who personally withdrew their application for any reason after submission are
included in the statistics
- Where an applicant has submitted a duplicate application, the duplicate inactivated by
SATAC has been excluded from the statistics, and the remaining "live"
application has been included
- Applications inactivated on such grounds as the applicant not signing their application
declaration or not paying their required application fees are included in the statistics
- The order of "highest level of entry qualification" reflects DETYA definitions
and does not necessarily reflect either institution or SATAC beliefs in the relative
merits of academic qualifications in the tertiary sector
Undergraduate and graduate/postgraduate tables
Applicants who have included only undergraduate preferences, or who have listed
undergraduate as well as graduate/postgraduate preferences are included as undergraduate
applicants (consistent with the practice in earlier SATAC Annual Reports). Graduate/Postgraduate
applicants are those who have only such preferences.
DEST (DETYA) and AVCC statistical return tables
These tables have been developed according to the definitions and requirements annually
supplied to all Australian tertiary admissions centres.
