1. Define your needs
-
Think about the goal you are trying to achieve – a new career, professional
development, personal interest.
-

career resources such as the Job Guide and myfuture.edu.au,

-
TAFE SA can also provide you with
advice on the links between their courses and careers. In particular, you can
ask their staff about the employment outcomes
of their graduates in recent years.
-
Many jobs and professions in Australia are looked after by
professional associations (eg the Australian Computing Society and the Institute
of Chartered Accountants). These associations are often willing to give advice
on suitable study to enter their professions. A list of these can be found in
the Yellow Pages Australia-wide
under "Organisations--Business & Professional".
2. Check out the course thoroughly
-
Are you sure that the TAFE SA courses you are considering will meet your
goals? Make sure you attend information sessions, consult
TAFE SA’s website and talk
to course coordinators to be certain your preferred courses are right for you.
-
Read the course information available on
CourseSearch
or in the TAFE SA Course and Admissions Guide 2012.
You can also seek advice from TAFE SA Information on freecall
1800 882 661 or from Student Services Officers located at various TAFE SA campuses.
-
The TAFE SA website
Selection Guide
provides detailed information on eligibility and how applicants are selected for
each course. You should also check the selection rules for courses which
interest you.
-
Delivery Modes: TAFE SA courses are available in a variety of delivery modes
to enable flexibility
for students.
There are four types of delivery modes:
- On campus
Courses which are available as 'on campus' will require students to attend the campus.
Attendance requirements vary and not all courses will require students to attend each weekday.
Some units of competency may be undertaken off campus or through a variety of delivery methods.
- On and off campus
Courses that are available as 'on and off campus' will be delivered with some of the course
off campus but compulsory attendance will be required at some time during the course.
While much of the course may be undertaken off campus, learning will also occur in the
classroom or at workshops. In some cases the attendance requirements are as little as
once or twice a semester.
- External
Courses which are available externally do not require any attendance at a campus.
Applicants will receive all the learning materials, usually as a package, which will
enable them to study from any location.
- Online
Courses which are delivered 100% via the internet.
