You can apply for up to six TAFE SA course offerings in a single application by listing them as preferences.

How should I choose my preferences?

You should read the course information available in CourseSearch. In choosing your preferences you need to work out what you would like to study (course title), how you would like to study (mode), where you want to study (campus) and when you want to study (start month).

Each combination of course, mode, campus and teaching start month has a unique SATAC course code. For example, you could choose a particular course at campus A as your highest preference and the same course at campus B as a lower preference.

Many TAFE SA courses are also offered at different levels. For example, while you may primarily be interested in studying at the Diploma level of a course, you may be able to begin studying for this qualification at the Certificate III level. You could therefore list the Diploma level course as your highest preference and the Certificate III course as a lower preference. In some cases you may need to apply for a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in order to exit with a Certificate III or IV as the lower levels are generally 'packaged' with the higher levels.

How should I order my preferences?

Enter the course offering you would most like to study as your first preference. The next preference in your list should be the course offering you would like to study if you were not offered your highest preference, and so on for up to six preferences.

Any offer made to you will be to the highest preference you listed for which you are both eligible and competitive.

Additional offers are made to many courses. If you receive an offer and it is not to your first preference, you can respond to that offer by indicating that you wish to be considered for higher preferences.

What if I change my mind?

After you apply, SATAC will send you an acknowledgment letter which will list your preferences. However, you can change your preferences on the web using Applicant Services if you change your mind for any reason. Make sure you have your SATAC TAFE SA reference number with you as you will need that to access the service.

Deadline for changing preferences

Changes of preference must be made by Wednesday 4 January 2012. Changes made after this date will not be guaranteed equal consideration in the Main January offer round (check Key Dates for closing dates information).

Note that some courses have early closing dates after which they will not accept new applications or the inclusion of the course as a new preference in an existing application. View a list of courses with early closing dates here.
