Which university to
choose?
The Australian network of
universities
Choosing to do a university course is an important decision
in your life. When making this decision Universities Australia (formerly the Australian Vice-Chancellor's
Committee) believes that you should consider the full range of
universities available.
Although this might make the process of decision-making more
difficult, there are advantages for both students and universities.
Your options as a student are expanded. Instead of having to
choose from only one or two courses in your preferred field, you will have a
full range of courses to consider. This means you can pick out the ones that
best meet your needs and interests. It will also encourage you to have a
broader outlook about yourself in an Australian and global society.
For universities, having students from interstate allows
them to offer diverse and specialised courses in a greater number of areas.
Specialised courses which otherwise would only attract a small number of
home-state students can continue to flourish with increased numbers of
interstate students.
In a world which is increasingly global in its perspective
it is important for universities to have a mix of students that reflects the
diversity of Australia and to a lesser extent the world. This provides the
right structural foundation for a system which is truly international in its
focus.
