variety of backgrounds.
Offering
over 100 undergraduate and 250 postgraduate courses,
Flinders prides itself on the quality of its programs and
the attention given to the learning experience of its
students.
ADMISSION
Flinders University offers many courses
in a variety of areas and the entry requirements for these courses vary.
You can
qualify for undergraduate courses through:
-
Year
12 qualifications (South Australian Certificate of
Education (SACE), International Baccalaureate and
interstate equivalents) - the majority of Year 12
applicants enter university via the traditional
competitive entry method. Flinders University offers
guaranteed entry for most courses to applicants
competing on year 12 qualifications with an ATAR equal
to or above the nominated ATAR rank. More information
about guaranteed entry including the courses to which it
applies can be found at:
www.flinders.edu.au/guaranteedatar.
-
TAFE/VET
qualifications - applicants who have completed certain
TAFE/VET qualifications are eligible to apply. Flinders
University offers guaranteed entry to selected courses
via our TAFElink program. To be eligible for TAFElink,
you must have completed a TAFE/VET Certificate IV or
higher qualification and meet all course prerequisites.
More information about TAFElink including the courses to
which it applies can be found at:
www.flinders.edu.au/tafelink.
-
Higher education transfers - applicants who have
completed the equivalent of at least one semester
(full-time) of a degree course may be considered for
admission to most courses on the basis of their higher
education results. Flinders University also offers
guaranteed entry to current Flinders students with a
nominated Grade Point Average (GPA) to a majority of
courses via our Flinderslink program. More information
about Flinderslink including the courses to which it
applies can be found at:
www.flinders.edu.au/flinderslink.
-
Adult
entry (STAT, Bridging Programs or Foundation Course) -
applicants who have not had the opportunity to gain
access to university by traditional means may apply for
admission through this pathway. Further information can
be found at:
www.flinders.edu.au/adult.
Admission
to all courses is normally based on academic merit as
determined by assessment of an applicant's qualifications.
In some courses other criteria, such as the UMAT, an
interview, audition or portfolio submission also apply, as
well as some courses having SACE Stage 2 subject
prerequisites. For information on such requirements, please
read carefully the information in the SATAC University
Guide and the course and programs website:
www.flinders.edu.au/courses.
It is extremely important that
applicants get advice on the correct admissions requirements for courses before
listing preferences on SATAC's UniWeb. Advice should
be sought from the Admissions/ Prospective Students Office on (08) 8201 3074 or 1300 657 671 (local
call cost).

Special Entry subquotas.
SPECIAL ACCESS
AND EQUITY SCHEMES
Flinders has a proud reputation for
student assistance and innovative schemes which provide access to mature
students and to those from non-traditional backgrounds and for providing
financial support through scholarships and bursaries.
Special access schemes include:
-
Rural and Isolated Student Access
Scheme (RISAS) provides bonus points to students from rural and isolated schools
in South Australia and interstate.
-
Student Equal Access
Scheme (SEAS) is designed to
assist students in metropolitan South Australia by providing bonus
points to applicants who are from low
socio-economic backgrounds.
-
Indigenous
Admissions
Scheme for
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have not had the
opportunity to gain access to university by traditional means. Further
information is available from the Yungorrendi First Nation Centre for
Higher Education and Research on (08) 8201 3033.
-
Principals Recommendation Program appreciates that a student's performance
in year 12 studies may not always be a true
indicator of an ability to succeed at university.
Accordingly, Flinders will consider a school's
recommendation of an applicant's academic
performance and potential for university study for
admission to selected Flinders courses.
Further information about all of these
schemes is available from the Admissions/Prospective Students Office on (08) 8201 3074 or 1300 657
671 (local call cost) or visit:
www.flinders.edu.au/special-entry.
BONUS POINTS AND SELECTION
-
LOTE
(Language Other Than English) Bonus Point Scheme
provides bonus points to students studying LOTE subjects
in year 12 who apply for entry to selected degree
courses at Flinders University
-
Science and Mathematics Bonus Points Scheme provides
bonus points to students studying selected Science and
Mathematics subjects in year 12 who apply for entry to
specified Science or Engineering degrees at Flinders
University
For
applicants who are eligible for year 12 bonus points, SATAC
will add the points to the SA/NT university aggregate. The
year 12 selection rank for Flinders University courses will
then be the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) which
corresponds to the revised aggregate. A similar process is
undertaken for applicants who have completed year 12
interstate or the International Baccalaureate.
Note that
applicants can receive bonus points under the Bonus Points
Scheme and the various access schemes up to a maximum of
nine
bonus points.
Selection
ranks are university and/or course-specific and do not
appear on SACE/NTCET documentation.
QUOTAS
Quotas which determine the number of new
students admitted to all courses are determined annually and for most courses
applications exceed supply. Selection is made on the basis of academic merit and
for some courses, performance in the UMAT, at an interview or audition. The University
reserves the right not to offer a course for which insufficient applications
have been received.
ACADEMIC YEAR
- COMMENCEMENT DATES

CREDIT TRANSFER

undertaken at other recognised educational institutions.
Credit transfer is available for applicants who have
completed or partially completed an award from another
university or recognised higher education institution, or who have completed an appropriate level of
qualification from TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Many TAFE/RTO
qualifications have already been assessed for credit towards
some of our courses; these can be searched with the Credit
Transfer Database available at:
www.flinders.edu.au/credit.
Others qualifications will require individual
assessment.
Eligibility for credit does not guarantee
admission to a course at Flinders University.
Further details on credit
transfer may be obtained online at
www.flinders.edu.au/credit
or from the Admissions/Prospective
Students Office on (08) 8201 3074 or 1300 657 671 (local

DUAL TAFE AND
FLINDERS UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS
The Department of Education and
Children's Services (DECS) and the University have developed a dual
study program which allows students to undertake studies in certain vocational
areas towards a TAFE award (for example diploma programs) and a Flinders
University degree simultaneously. These dual awards will permit students to gain
vocational knowledge and skills while completing complementary study in a degree
course. The dual award will be shorter in length than the combined length of
the separate degree and diploma courses - typically both awards would normally
take five years of full-time study to complete (BA: three years; TAFE award:
two years). Under the dual award students complete both awards in four
years resulting in savings in fees. Prospective applicants must
obtain an information sheet on the dual award programs before completing an
application.
Enquiries should be made to the
Admissions/Prospective Students Office on
(08) 8201 3074 or 1300 657 671 (local call cost), or to the TAFE
SA Information
Service, telephone 1800 882
661 (freecall) or 8463 6300 (mobile callers).
