COMMONWEALTH GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS
If you are a full-time student
undertaking an approved scholarship course and are receiving
Youth Allowance, Austudy or ABSTUDY Living Allowance, you will
receive the Student Start-Up Scholarship. You'll receive this
scholarship at the beginning of each semester to help with
up-front costs of studying, such as textbooks and specialised
equipment. If you are eligible, you'll receive the full amount
of the Start-Up Scholarship, even if you are not on the maximum
payment from Centrelink. In 2011 the Student Start-Up
Scholarship was worth $1,097 for each 6 months of eligible study
and it is indexed each year.
The Relocation Scholarship will
be paid to eligible dependent Youth Allowance and ABSTUDY
(Living Allowance) Centrelink customers to help with the costs
of living away from home to study. To qualify for this payment,
you must be studying full-time in an approved scholarship
course, and be in receipt of ABSTUDY Living Allowance or Youth
Allowance as a full-time student, and be a dependent person who
has to live away from home to study or be assessed as
independent under specific scholarship independence criteria. In
2011 the Relocation Scholarship provided students with a lump
sum payment of $1,031 in each year of study. There is one
exception - students who are in their first year of eligibility
will receive a lump sum payment in that first year. In 2011 the
lump sum payment was $4,124. The rate of the Relocation
Scholarship will be indexed each year.
