English language competence
All the universities require international applicants to meet
minimum standards of competence in English as part of the admission
requirements of each course.
Charles Darwin University and Flinders
University
In most circumstances, successful completion of an
Australian year 12 program, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma where
English is the language of instruction, meets the English language requirements
of these universities.
Note however, that for
offshore applicants whose country of citizenship is defined
by the Commonwealth Department of Immigration and
Citizenship (DIAC) as Assessment Level 3 or 4 (eg China),
English language competence must be demonstrated with an
IELTS test score (or similar). The requirements vary from
course to course and the universities will contact such
applicants directly with details of the results required.
University of Adelaide
All international students undertaking an Australian year 12
program are required to complete and achieve a passing grade
or above in an English as a Second Language or an English
Language subject. Details of recognised subjects are
available at
http://www.international.adelaide.edu.au/apply/admission.
If a student does not pass the English subject, alternative
options, such as an acceptable English language proficiency
test result, may
be arranged. Recognised tests and requirements are specified
on the web page listed above.
Successful completion of the
International Baccalaureate Diploma meets the English
language requirements of the University of Adelaide.
University of South Australia
In most circumstances, successful completion of an
Australian year 12 program, or the International
Baccalaureate Diploma where English is the language of
instruction, meets the English language requirements of the
University.
Note however, that offshore applicants
whose country of citizenship is defined by the Commonwealth
Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) as
Assessment Level 3 or 4 (eg China) must demonstrate English
language competence. Requirements vary from program to
program but can usually be met by presenting an acceptable
English language proficiency test result.
For programs where the current entry
requirement is IELTS 6.0, the requirements can be met by
students who have successfully completed SACE Stage 2
English as a Second Language (ESL) in the SAM Program at
Qian Huang International College in China and achieved a
minimum grade of C-. For programs with requirements higher
than IELTS 6.0, the University will contact applicants
directly with details of the results required.

You are strongly advised to check the individual
universities' detailed requirements on their websites
Quotas
For most courses, places are available for all international
applicants who have met the course entry requirements and who achieve the
minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) required.
Details of the cut off ranks likely to be used
in 2011/2012 can be obtained directly from the universities.
For the final SATAC offer round for international students on
13 January, some courses use the cutoff ranks established for Australian
students in their January offer round.
A few courses offered by the universities have restrictions on
the number of international applicants that may be admitted (for example, the
Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics at
Flinders
University, and the Bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of South
Australia). The number of places available for these courses is called a
'quota'. For these courses, applicants may need to obtain a higher rank than
the minimum ATAR shown or places may be limited on a
'first come, first serve' basis, meaning students who
receive an offer must respond immediately to the university
to secure one of the limited places available.
