Once you have decided on the courses you want to apply for and have checked that you are eligible to apply, you can begin your SATAC application.
To apply for a TAFE SA course, you will need to complete an online application. We recommend that you complete your application using a desktop computer, rather than a smartphone or tablet.
Create a login
To begin an online application, you complete the online registration page. You will need to create a username and password and provide a valid email address.
SATAC will send you a confirmation email when you have successfully completed the registration page. If you do not receive the email, check your spam or junk mail folder. If you have not received your confirmation email after a few hours, it may be that there is a technical issue, or you have mistyped your email address. Contact SATAC and we will check for you.
If you have previously applied for TAFE SA courses through SATAC (since June 2010) you can log in using your previous username and password. It is not necessary to complete the registration page again. If you are unable to remember your login details from your previous application, use the links provided in the login box and SATAC will send you the information you need via email.
Provide a valid email address
All applicants must provide a valid email address when applying for a TAFE SA course as SATAC will send you important information via email, such as an acknowledgement of your application, change of preference confirmations, and notification of any offers you receive.
You will also need your email address to retrieve your username or reset your password should you forget them.
TAFE SA may contact you by email with information about enrolment or other details should you receive an offer.
It is important that you have regular access to the email address you provide, so you should not use a school email address or an email address that belongs to someone else. The application is not designed to support someone applying on your behalf, such as teachers, job network or TAFE SA support staff.
You can get a free web-based email account through online providers such as Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo, or by searching online.
Your responsibilities as an applicant
It is your responsibility to:
- carefully follow all application instructions whether applying for the first time or changing preferences
- provide all the information sought in the application process
- provide all the supporting documentation (if any) required by SATAC to assess your application in time for the main offer rounds
- check and conform to the closing dates of your course preferences
- read and agree to the terms and conditions of the application.
Inside the application
You must complete every section of the SATAC application, even if you haven’t done every type of study. You won't be able to submit your application until all sections have been completed and saved.
You can list up to three courses in your SATAC application. Your course selections are known as preferences.
You should list the courses in order of preference, with the course you are most interested in as preference one. Remember, SATAC assumes that your first preference is the course that you most want to study.
Check the course entry details carefully as you add your preferences. The course entries contain important information about the course, its entry requirements, and closing dates.
Accessing a partially completed application
If you are unable to complete your SATAC application in one sitting, you can log out at any time. You can access your partially completed application by logging in with your username and password via My Application.
Submitting your application
As soon as you have submitted your online application SATAC will send you an email to the email address you provided which includes a PDF of your acknowledgement letter. Check your acknowledgment letter carefully and advise SATAC immediately of any changes. Full details of how to do this are shown in the letter.
When you submit your application, SATAC confirms that we have received it by displaying your SATAC TAFE SA reference number. Your SATAC reference number is a unique nine-digit number that SATAC will use for identification purposes, so it’s important that you keep a record of it.
Online application services
Once you have submitted your application you will be able to use SATAC’s online services to provide any documents that we may need to complete the assessment of your application, change your preferences, update your contact details and check your offer status.
Submit supporting documents
The SATAC online application will tell you if you need to provide supporting documents. Once you have submitted your online application you will be able to attach supporting documents online or print a document cover sheet if you would prefer to provide your documents to SATAC in hard copy.
In some cases, such as for recent year 12 study undertaken in Australia, SATAC can obtain results from these studies on your behalf, but for some qualifications, such as prior TAFE/VET or overseas studies, you will need to provide supporting documents.
SATAC will ask you for evidence of all qualifications you claim, even if you have already met the course admission requirements for your chosen course(s), as this may maximise your chances of receiving an offer.
For Diploma of Nursing applicants
To meet the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) English language skills registration standards, you are asked to complete the Diploma of Nursing English Requirements form (link below) and upload to your SATAC application as soon as possible.
Some important points if you do need to provide supporting documents
There may be delays in assessing your qualifications if you do not supply the correct documentation in support of your application.
If you are required to provide documents for current year studies, submit these as soon as they are available.
Do not send irreplaceable originals such as your year 12 certificate or TAFE/VET parchment. Photocopies are sufficient. SATAC does not return documents, nor does it keep documents submitted in previous years.
Studies undertaken overseas
If any of your documents are in a language other than English, you must submit copies of both the original documents and the full translation. Transcript translations must show results for all subjects undertaken. All translations must be certified by an independent accredited translator.
It is your responsibility to comply with any requests by SATAC to provide further documentation, either in the original language or translated into English.

Update your personal details
If you need to update or amend your personal details, such as your date of birth or name, or if you need to change or add to your qualifications, you will need to contact SATAC in writing. These details cannot be changed online once you’re your application has been submitted.
You can send any changes to SATAC using the online enquiry form.
Check or change your preferences
You can change your preferences by logging in via My Application. A change of preference includes both changes to the order of existing preferences and the addition of new preferences to an application.
Please note that when you have reached the maximum number of offers in your TAFE SA application you will not be able to make any further changes to your preferences or receive any more offers.
If you add a course with admission requirements for the first time, you will be asked to provide additional information about your qualifications.
If you are unable to change your preferences online, you can advise SATAC of the changes in writing and we will amend them for you, however SATAC staff will not accept a change of preference over the telephone.
Change of preference deadline
There will be times during the application cycle when changes of preference will be unavailable. This is to allow SATAC to process applications in time for an offer round. You should change your preferences by these deadlines in order to be considered in the next offer round.
SATAC will notify you of an offer on behalf of TAFE SA by emailing the offer to your last recorded email address. Courses that do not make offers immediately make offers on set dates.
If SATAC makes you an offer outside of the published dates, we will notify you by email.
It is your responsibility to find out whether you have received an offer and to comply with the enrolment instructions from TAFE SA.
Responding to an offer
If you receive an offer to a TAFE SA course, you are not required to respond to the offer with SATAC. All you need to do is enrol in your course following the instructions sent to you by TAFE SA. Your enrolment in the course is confirmation of acceptance of your offer.
If you do not wish to accept the offer, then simply don’t enrol with TAFE SA. This will not affect your chances in a future application.
TAFE SA courses cannot be deferred through SATAC.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Students are encouraged to seek recognition from TAFE SA of their prior learning or existing skills to exempt them from repeating work unnecessarily.
Applicants not selected
If you comply with all the application requirements but are unsuccessful and are still interested in studying at TAFE SA, contact TAFE SA directly to discuss your options.
